Grand jury indicts three white men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery

On Wednesday, a grand jury in Georgia USA, indicted Travis McMichael, Greg McMichael and William R. Bryan on malice and felony murder charges for the death of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery. The formal charge comes four months after the McMichaels shot and killed Arbery while he was out jogging, Prosecutor Joyette Holmes said, this is another positive step, another great step for finding justice for Ahmaud, for finding justice for this family and the community beyond.”

Arbery’s death has been invoked during the recent protests against racial injustice that have broken out across America since the murder of George Floyd last month. Arbery was killed on February 23 when Greg and Travis McMichael, a white father and son, armed themselves and pursued the 25-year-old Black man who was jogging in their neighborhood.

Floyd’s death also fueled renewed demands for a state hate crimes law in Georgia, which state lawmakers passed on Tuesday.
