6 Highlights of the London Design Festival You Must Enjoy #LDF17

Back and now in its fifteenth year the London Design Festival which celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world, will be returning to venues and institutions across the city between the 16-24 September 2017.

THE AFRICA CENTRE: 16, 18-23 SEPTEMBER- A LARGE CHAIR DOES NOT MAKE A KING

“A Large Chair Does Not Make a King” is an immersive installation which will allow visitors to engage with the art and move through the space. The Africa Centre is delighted to be working with London based designer Yinka Ilori to launch this specially commissioned installation. Where: ARCH 29, SE1 0LR

THE CONRAN SHOP 16-24 SEPTEMBER

Long-term collaborators of The Conran Shop, Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon of PINCH will create a window installation based around the theme of Craft Laboratory, where they will present a unique and visually arresting series of stylised stories that frame the progressions and abstracted inspirations behind their cross-category work. Known for their genre-defining and artful furniture, PINCH will showcase a coherent colour story and an engaging narrative of the processes involved in the creation of each of their designs in the Marylebone windows. THE RUG COMPANY 18-23 SEPTEMBER

THE RUG COMPANY MCQUEEN

To mark its 20th anniversary, The Rug Company will launch a collection of handmade rugs by Paul Smith, Alexander McQueen, Kelly Wearstler, Vivienne Westwood & Suzanne Sharp. The rugs will be shown with photography of the designers in their creative spaces, by artists including Mary McCartney. Where: 555 KINGS ROAD, SW6 2EB

THE TRADE SHOW BY FAYE TOOGOOD 16-24 SEPTEMBER

Faye Toogood has invited 50 of the leading creative forces in the country to take part in a unique collaborative project. Toogood presents each of the participants with one of her signature Spade chairs and in return they donate a representative piece of their own work. Where: THE GARAGE, SW3 2BA

UNDER/EXPOSED 16-24 SEPTEMBER BY SQUIRE AND PARTNERS

Architects Squire and Partners will open the doors of their new Brixton office, the Department Store, to present UNDER/EXPOSED, a design series collaborating with the area’s finest creative talent. The first seven days will host ‘Beneath the surface part two’, a conceptual fashion installation by local designer Isabel Fletcher. A series of workshops will take place in our Making Room, including linocut prints by Brixton based illustrator Kaylene Alder, a supper cloth communal embroidery workshop by textile designers Bowles & Betts, leathercraft by studio Candice Lau, a wire-bending workshop and talk with sculptural artist Carl Gabriel, a greeting card workshop with printed textile designer Samantha Warren, and traditional Polish Pajaki making by Karolina Marska from Bobbin & Bow. ZAHA HADID

The Zaha Hadid Gallery showcases the latest in architecture, interiors, furniture, and product design from the Zaha Hadid Design Collection and Zaha Hadid Architects. Opened in 2013, the gallery features curated exhibitions and provides insight into the process and ethos of the design studio, founded by Zaha Hadid over 35 years ago, and which continually re-establishes itself at the forefront of art, architecture and design.
