Edward Enninful, who has served as the editor-in-chief of British Vogue for six and a half years, is bidding farewell to his current role after styling more than 75 issues.

His departure is commemorated by the March cover, a bold statement on Enninful’s on-going support for female power, featuring 40 influential women across various industries, such as the iconic Jane Fonder, Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, Laverne Cox, Naomi Campbell, Dua Lipa, Serena Williams, and the mother-daughter duo Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber.

WORDS EDWARD ENNINFUL WROTE
“When it came to my last issue, I knew the cover would be dedicated to women. Of course! Women have shaped British Vogue for close to 108 years now, and have certainly informed every moment of my six and a half year tenure here, to say nothing of leading and guiding me through my entire life.

It was clear to all of us on the team that no one woman could or should encapsulate these past few years for the magazine. What we needed was a group, to lean into the power of the collective to bring to life what I hope has been a daring, disruptive and evolutionary period in Vogue’s history. They also – by dint of extraordinary impact, force of personality, style and influence – needed to have reached beyond fashion and culture to change the fabric of society in the 2020s, in ways small and large and always positive.”

In a unique and visually striking arrangement captured by photographer Steven Meisel, all 40 women are captured in black and white ensembles, arranged on tiered levels, showcasing their collective impact on the fashion world.

The inaugural December 2017 edition overseen by Enninful focused on celebrating Great Britain and prominently showcased the black model and activist, Adwoa Aboah, on its cover.

The March issue of British Vogue will be available via digital download and newsstands from Tuesday 13 February.
