Mimi Findlay, Chair of Judges, says “This year’s shortlist took the judges on journeys of the intimate, personal experience, of the raw and unending struggle of difficult family circumstances, of oppression, of racism, of the UK’s Home Office ‘Hostile Environment Policy’, of the lack of hope, of the immovable force of hope and of the world we live in today. Terrifying, incredible, unjust and beautiful stories that thrilled us all.”
The Roland Rees Bursary will also be presented at the event.
Last year’s winning play Rockets and Blue Lights by Winsome Pinnock is being developed by Royal Exchange Manchester for 2020 whilst 2014’s winning play Cuttin’ It by Charlene James is being revived by Royal Exchange Manchester during January and February 2020.
