US Narrative Feature “Burning Cane” won the Founders Award for best U.S. narrative feature and lead actor Wendell Pierce awarded the top actor in the category for the Annual Tribeca Film Festival, now in its 18th year.
“Burning Cane,”is directed by Phillip Youmans, who was 17 when he wrote, directed and shot the film. Youmans is the African-American director to win this award and the youngest director to have a feature in Tribeca. The film is set in the Louisiana swamplands, and Pierce plays a struggling preacher mourning the death of his wife. Youmans also won the cinematography award in the category.
The Tribeca Film Festival runs from 24 Apr 2019 – Sun, 5 May 2019 closing this Sunday.
Wendell Pierce appears on the London stage in Arthur Millers Death of Salesman runs until July 2019.
