Showbiz: The Voice UK Semi-Finalist Donel Invited to Perform for Queen

The Voice UK Live Show Launch on Thursday  28th  March saw the 8 contestants in the semi-final perform a short piece for the press which included alt-africa.com.

When asked what the judges were looking forward to in the live shows, Grammy  winner Jennifer Hudson said “..I think we have such diversity in the talent this year, no two acts are going to be the same so it makes it that much more exciting”. Sir Tom Jones said “I am looking forward to getting somebody in the final, because everyone who does not get anyone in the final has left, Gavin left”.

The eight semi-finalist are: Team Tom Jones (Lucy Milburn and Ruti Olajugbagbe) Team Olly Murs (Lauren Bannon and Jamie Grey ) Team Jennifer Hudson (Gayatri Nair and Belle voci) and Team will.i.am (Tai  and Donel Mangena)

Contestant Donel Mangena has fast become a judges “favorite” and they appear to have taken a liking to his grandma. Sir Tom Jones said that he would go and get her himself if she does not get her visa.

will.i.am (frontman for Pop supergroup Black Eyed Peas) let slip that “Donel was invited by Prince Harry” to perform for the Queens 92nd birthday in April. Mangena who’s family are from Zimbabwe said that he “did not know what song he would sing” for the Queen.  The 16-year who sees “Usher and “Michael Jackson” as his musical influences when asked how he is handling the new found fame said that “his faith” directs him.

Only the top four will be going through to the finals, it is now up to the public to decide. The Voice UK semi-finals takes place tonight Saturday  31st March on ITV at 8.30pm.
