Yinka Shonibare: British-Nigerian artist whose work explores cultural identity, colonialism and post-colonialism “within the contemporary context of globalisation“. Shonibare started exhibiting in 2008 and since has had 6 solo exhibitions.
Charles Saumarez Smith CBE, Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy, said:
“With RA Family Album Yinka Shonibare brings a large scale and dramatic visual representation of the RA to the outside world showing its history, stories, people and evolving character as we approach our 250th anniversary in 2018. We are opening up the RA as never before and this work shows that it is a place for everyone”.
This site- specific artwork can be seen wrapping the RA’s Burlington Gardens building. RA Family Album has 160 images that span the Royal Academy’s 248-year history. Definitely worth seeing! Address: 6 Burlington Gardens London W1S 3ET
