Cannes 2026: The African films to Watch Ben’Imana and Congo Boy

With Congo Boy and BEN’IMANA both selected in Un Certain Regard, spotlighting bold new voices and powerful storytelling from the continent history is in the making….

Congo Boy by Rafiki Fariala follows Robert, a 17 year old Congolese refugee in Bangui trying to care for his younger siblings while chasing dreams of becoming a musician. A coming of age story shaped by survival, youth and music.

BEN’IMANA by Marie Clémentine Dusabejambo becomes the first film by a Rwandan director selected for Cannes Official Selection. Set in post genocide Rwanda, the film follows Veneranda, a survivor forced to confront the limits of forgiveness when a personal family crisis reopens wounds from the past.

Two powerful African stories.
