Black Rock Global Arts Foundation & Black Rock Sénégal at La Mamounia
Black Rock Global Arts Foundation will exhibit pieces by Black Rock Sénégal alumni, including works by Léonard Pongo and Devin B. Johnson, showcasing diverse techniques and themes that resonate across mediums and countries. The exhibition highlights the creative depth and connections formed within the program, emphasizing materiality, natural fibers, and abstract landscapes
in the artists’ works.
Amina Agueznay, “Stamps of Tana” at DaDa Amina Agueznay’s “Stamps of Tana” at DaDa features two series: woven panels and monotype prints, inspired by her residency in Antananarivo and the legendary Malagasy textile artist Madame Zo. Through commissioned rubber stamps and raffia weaving, Agueznay explores the essence of creation, transcending local practices to reveal the process itself, supported by Loft Gallery.
Amine El Gotaibi, “Le Ventre du Lion” at La Mamounia Amine El Gotaibi’s “Le Ventre du Lion” is a striking sculpture that evolves from his previous work, “Lions de l’Atlas,” delving into Moroccan symbols and societal forces. Crafted in concrete, adorned with gold leaf, and encased in steel, it symbolizes the clash between progress and tradition, resonating as a poignant metaphor for Morocco’s cultural struggle. The sculpture, supported by MCC Gallery, offers a powerful reflection on contemporary Moroccan identity, blending aesthetic beauty with profound societal commentary.
LAWSONIA CATAPLASM GARDEN | PERFORMANCE ET RITUEL DE SOIN – with Rita Alaoui at DaDa Rita Alaoui, presented by Galerie SINIYA28, performs alongside musician Mourad Belouadi during the first day of the 1-54 VIP day, exploring the healing powers of plants through immersive art and music. Alaoui’s practice delves into the therapeutic virtues of plants, particularly henna, inviting reflection on contemporary healing methods and the planet’s well-being amidst pharmaceutical industry challenges. A screening of her work will also be on display at DaDa.
