Babyface returns for Saint Lucia
The 2024 edition of the St Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, set to kick off on Tuesday, April 30, promises a spectacular lineup of international, regional, and local musical talents, as unveiled during a live media launch event on January 18. Among the headline acts confirmed for the two-week extravaganza are Babyface, Air Supply, Davido, Machel Montano, Beres Hammond, Jon Secada, Allison Marquis, and Michele Henderson. During the media launch, Nicholas John, Chair of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority and the festival, celebrated the event’s success, citing that the 2023 edition attracted over 10,000 visitors from 34 countries, injecting millions of dollars into the island’s economy.
Dr. Ernest Hilare, St Lucia’s Minister of Tourism, emphasized the festival’s evolution over its 30-year history, becoming a radiant beacon of artistic expression, community development, economic opportunity, and cultural convergence. He highlighted the festival’s resilience, bouncing back from challenges and continuing to thrive, thanks to the shared St Lucian vision.
Grammy-winning singer Babyface, known for his soulful R&B contributions, is a significant addition to the festival’s lineup. Some of his most popular and best-selling songs, such as “Whip Appeal” and “Every Time I Close My Eyes,” are expected to captivate the audience with their timeless appeal. Babyface performed at the 2006 event. Babyface’s inclusion adds to lexcitement to the diverse musical offerings at the St Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, alongside artist like Davido who leads the global #Afrobeat scene.
The festival’s schedule includes various themed nights, including ‘Pure Jazz,’ ‘Kingdom Night’ for Gospel enthusiasts, ‘Caribbean Fusion,’ and ‘World Beats.’ Community jazz events in Dennery, Banonneau, Soufriere, and Monchy will also contribute to the island’s vibrant cultural scene. The grand culmination, ‘The Ultimate Celebration,’ on Sunday, May 12, at Pigeon Island National Landmark, will feature a diverse selection of special musicians entertaining a large and enthusiastic crowd. Additional artists are anticipated to be announced in the weeks and months leading up to the festival, promising an unforgettable musical experience for attendees.
