30th United Nations Climate Change Conference will take place in November 2025; decision took place at the COP-28 plenary in Dubai
The city of Belém (PA) was officially confirmed as the host for the 30th edition of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-30). The COP-28 summit, which takes place in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, confirmed in a plenary session, by consensus, the capital of Pará as the heart of the 2025 meeting. The president of Embratur, Marcelo Freixo, congratulated the president of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, and the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, for the decision.
The event is scheduled to take place in November 2025 and will attract delegations and representatives from around the world. It will be a great opportunity for Brazil to reinforce its leadership position in the debate on climate change. “That’s right, the COP in an Amazonian state to have a very in-depth debate about climate responsibility, sustainability and the development model. Congratulations to President Lula, Minister Marina and Minister Celso Sabino”, said Freixo.
Marcelo highlighted that tourism is an activity that can be directly linked to environmental conservation. “Tourism is a great activity to generate jobs and income with sustainability. And we know how much tourism can be the solution for Brazil and, especially, for the Amazon. Congratulations to Brazil once again”, he reinforced.
Brazil’s candidacy to host COP-30 took place in January. The document that indicated Belém as the venue for COP-30 was signed by the UN on May 18th. However, it was still necessary for the conference plenary to make the nomination official. In the same session, it was agreed that COP-29, in November 2024, will take place in Azerbaijan.
