Young Masters Art Prize call for artists open till 11 June 2023: call for emerging and mid-career contemporary artists

Young Masters returns in 2023 with a call for artists for the Young Masters Art Prize. This unique initiative encourages emerging and mid-career contemporary artists to look back to the art of the past for inspiration. Young Masters recognises and showcases artists who show originality, skill and imagination in response to art history, and for artists working in Ceramics there is a dedicated Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize, which runs concurrently with the Young Masters Art Prize.

Up to 15 artists will be shortlisted for the Young Masters Art Prize, and up to 10 ceramicists will be shortlisted for the Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize. All shortlisted artists will feature in an exhibition in two parts, at 67 York Street in central London coinciding with Frieze week in October 2023.

This unique initiative highlights emerging artists of any gender, age, or nationality, working in any media, whose work responds to the art of the past.

In 2014 the Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramic Prize was added to focus more attention on the growing interest in the collection of contemporary craft. 2017 saw the launch of the inaugural Young Masters Emerging Women Award. The fifth edition and 10th Anniversary Exhibition of the Prize took place in October 2019.

The most recent Young Masters initiative is the curatorial platform Focus on the Female developed in 2021 as an artistic and philanthropic antidote to the impact of the COVID pandemic on women.
