After opening inside the White City Westfield last year, Black Pound Day is back with another, this time due to open in Westfield Stratford
Black Pound Day, which aims to encourage people to swap their usual purchases and spend money with UK Black-owned businesses, was founded by award-winning artist Swiss in 2020 in an effort to help support the Black economy – it was found that for every pound a white household makes Black Caribbeans earn 20p whilst Black Africans earn just 10p. In just two years Black Pound Day went from hosting a pop-up shop in Westfield London in 2021 to its very own permanent site in the shopping centre in 2022.
Now a second shop, this time a pop-up in Westfield Stratford, is opening, and will be stocked with products across haircare, skincare, toys, homeware, books and cosmetics from over 50 Black-owned businesses, including Present Your Joy, Beard Gang Members and Xay and Mama. The launch of the new shop will be another significant step for both Black Pound Day, which now boasts over 1500 businesses from across the country on its directory, and for the growth of the Black economy.
Opens Sat 4th February 2023
Westfield Stratford City, Montfichet Rd, London E20 1EJ
