Kevin Feige, who has been the president of Marvel Studios since 2007 paid tribute to the late, great Chadwick Boseman this week. During which he confirmed that Boseman’s character T’Challa will not be recast in the upcomimg Black Panther II. Feige said.
“I wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and member of the Marvel Studios family. Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally. His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past.”
He continued, “To honor the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king of Wakanda, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.”
Black Panther Il sequel is being written and directed by Ryan Coogler and is supposed to be out in July 8, 2022.
The original was released in 2018, making over $1.35 billion in the global box office and had seven Oscar nominations including Best Picture, winning three Oscars. Marvel has not revealed a new storyline.
