Cineworld the world’s second largest cinema operator and the largest in the UK with 120 sites is set to close 128 of its UK cinemas after Bond delay. The chain made a loss of £1.3 billion in the six months to June 2020, since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March. Across the industry it has been hit by the delay of big budget film releases like Wonder Woman, Black Widow and No Time To Die that was supposed to encourage UK movie audiences back in but on Friday the Bond film was pushed back to April 2021.
How many cinemas will be open in 2021 to welcome the Bond film release and will audiences feel confident to return in the huge numbers needed, the unpredictably of the Pandemic continues with a steady rise in recents days many are fearful for the wider economy.
Cineworld also owns the Picturehouse chain of smaller venues.
