Actor Chadwick Boseman, who played icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown before finding fame in Black Panther in the Marvel cinematic universe, died Friday of cancer, his representative said. He was 43.
His prominence came about playing real-life figures -like baseball great Jackie Robinson in 2013’s 42, and soul singer James Brown in 2014’s Get on Up. But it was the Black Panther blockbuster 2018 film he will be best remembered for. Boseman starred as the ruler of Wakanda, a fictional African nation with the most advanced technology on earth. He was filming his last couple of movies going through surgeries and chemo.
