Publisher and Journalist Barbara Campbell dies: The woman who gave us The List and Black Heritage Today

Extremely sad to hear that Barbara Campbell has passed away from dementia.

A women whose career started back in 1994 with a work placement at The Voice newspaper. As a confident student within weeks she was doing front page stories. Immediately when her studies ended she was offered a job and become the editor of The Journal newspaper, a sister paper to The Voice, within two years.

In between she freelanced with publications that included the Independent on Sunday and Ms London.

In 2000 she founded Barb Wire Enterprises a London based publishing house. The company published Live Listings magazine; The Official Guide to International Women’s Month magazine and Black Heritage Today.

The then  single mother of two cashed in her life insurance policy to use as seed money.  She said at the time : “I started my companies because I saw the gap in the market for a multicultural Time Out and decided to go for it. I cashed in my insurance policy to fund it”.
