As part of the SheCAN initiative we are soft-launching our remit to get more BAME women to experience theatre who may not always find it affordable or accessible or who may want to work in theatre. SheCAN aims to create opportunities for women age 18-35 within the creative industries, from mentoring to jobs to training. For those interested, we have teamed up with Omnibus Theatre in Clapham to offer 3 pairs of tickets to see Othello-remixed.. To get the tickets email the editor with a two to three line paragraph on why you want the tickets. ( editor @ alt – africa (dot) com). Tickets are available for the following dates and times: Dates: 26, 27, 29, 30th June.
The production: Shakespeare’s gripping tragedy is remixed by Intermission Theatre Company, breathing fresh life into the stories of Othello, Iago and Desdemona in this new production directed by Darren Raymond (Shakespeare’s Globe: Shakespeare In The Abbey, The Shakespeare Walks).
London 2019. Championship boxer Othello has chosen Michael Cassio to be his corner man. Rejected, Iago is riven with jealousy and deceit. Desdemona is in the center of their conflict which may (or may not) lead to a calamitous end.
In an explosive mashup of language, Othello’s story is staged in a modern day London boxing ring, urgently reinventing Shakespeare’s warnings of manipulation, division and revenge. Intermission Theatre Company and director Darren Raymond made their Omnibus Theatre debut from June 14. Book tickets
