Ava who is passionate about telling the stories of women and people of colour through her work and distribution company ARRAY, shall join the event via Skype to discuss her work and the mark she has made in the industry by being one of few black female directors. Less than a decade into her directing career, DuVernay became the first African-American woman to helm a film nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award (2014’s Martin Luther King Jr. biopic Selma). This June the BFI celebrates her ground breaking achievements both in front of, and behind, the camera. From 2nd June.
