From award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter, LUTHER: NEVER TOO MUCH the documentary film, chronicles the story of a vocal virtuoso. From the opening scene you are treated to the sound of the beautiful, incredible vocals of this immensely talented legend and throughout the documentary you get more than short clips of his hit and Grammy winning songs sang by Luther, from his concerts to behind the scenes rehearsal footage.
For those who do not know, Luther was not just a singer and songwriter, his was also a producer, and was very hands on with his shows right down to designing many of the costumes he and his band, dancers wore.

The documentary touches on his personal life from struggles with his weight and love life. Luther himself professes the song “ANY LOVE” is autobiographical. Vandross was known for being private about his personal life. The media often speculated about his sexuality, but he never spoke publicly about it, declaring rightly it was his business.
Despite his wide appeal he was marketed exclusively to Black audiences, desperately he wanted to cross over to the mainstream, it was his lifelong battle to earn the respect his music deserved.

Porter uses a wealth of rarely seen archives, allowing Luther to tell his own story with assistance from his closest friends and musical collaborators including Mariah Carey, Dionne Warwick, Valerie Simpson and Roberta Flack.

Wholly a film that relives the many stunning moments of Luther’s Grammy® award-winning musical career, while exploring his personal life, health struggles and music industry treatment. The documentary touches on how much winning his first Grammy for “Here and Now,” in 1990 meant to him, the first of many many awards. From 37 nominations, Luther won 21 of them, including eight Grammy Awards.
