Applications are now open for Studio Fellowships
Deadline: 16 December 2024
Launched in 2021 as a Painting Fellowship, and expanded in 2023 to encompass wider studio practice, the Studio Fellowships take place annually to connect artists with host UK universities.
Fellowships were once a staple part of the landscape of art education, providing a first step into teaching for emerging artists. These positions were a vital stage in many artists’ careers, enabling them to develop their own practice, while gaining experience delivering tutorials and lectures. A fellowship enables an environment where an artist and art students can build a symbiotic relationship.

The Freelands Studio Fellowship’s programme continues this crucial legacy fellowships have in the arts education ecosystem, offering artists funding for a year, a personal studio within the setting of one of the partner universities’ art departments, and dedicated time and support to develop their individual artistic practice. In addition, they will receive mentorship and the opportunity to engage with the current student body, supporting staff with workshops, crits and tutorials as well as hosting at least one artist’s talk.
Applications are invited from studio-based artists who graduated from one of the eight participating universities:
- Bath School of Art, Film and Media, Bath Spa University
