Film Africa Continues: An Anthology of Short films from Nigeria (British Council/ Film Lab Africa Showcase)

About: The film lab Africa producer training program, funded by the British Council will be showcasing 10 short films produced by emerging filmmakers from Nigeria.

Toll Free (2024) – Produced by Mel Rouge  

Synopsis: A high flying therapist, finds herself triggered by a troubled couple who visits her clinic, forced to face her past trauma, she crosses all professional lines.  

Directors: Mel Rouge & James Amuta

Actors: Michelle Dede, Ibrahim Suleiman, Enyinna Nwigwe, Uzoamaka Onuoha, Laveena Verma 

Ireti (2024) – Produced by Temi Ami-Williams:  

Synopsis: When a young lady full of life and vigor is diagnosed with cancer, she is forced to hold on to hope for survival, by channeling her passion and skill for costume design: 

Director: Temi Ami-Williams: 

 Actors: Kanyinsola Eros, Gloria Young, Tolu Odewumi, Joshua Morakinyo. 

Ekun Iyawo (2024) – Produced by Moses Ipadeola 

Synopsis: Omolewa rebels against local customs to follow her heart and marry the love of her life, but local customs insist otherwise, at a crossroad, she takes a stand.  

Director: Moses Ipadeola 

Lead actors: Ugoh Amanda, Moshood Fattah, Ropo Ewenla, Soledayo Adegbite, Peter Fatomilola, Joke Muyiwa, Chukwu Martin. 

Nepa (2024) – Produced by Sandra Adaora Anyanwu  

Synopsis: A troubled young man takes revenge against the Nigerian electric power authority when the constant lack of power supply leads to the sudden death of his wife at the local hospital  

Director: Hilary Zin Gabriel

Lead actor: Bryan Okoye 

Femi (2024) – Produced by Stephanie Coker  

Synopsis: Geneticist Femi Fernandez seeks the perfect male gene, inspired by the works of an enchanting  painting, that makes her unexpectedly drawn to the artist to devastating consequences.

Adunni (2024) – Produced by Jemima Pearl Marcel-Udoh 

Synopsis: Adunni struggles with the weight of a secret she carries, but when she finds out her secret isn’t limited to just her alone, she find the inner strength to seek justice and speak out.  

Director: Olusola Roberts

Synopsis: When 21-year-old Nnadubem becomes fascinated by the dambe traditional Hausa sport of bare- knuckle rope boxing. He has to convert a community of doubters and earn the respect of fellow fighters to be accepted as a warrior.

Ralia’s Secret (2024) – Produced by Faustina Okomayin  

Synopsis: Ralia, feeling conflicted and burdened by a secret plan she harbours, must protect her secret at all cost when a familiar face from her past finds her and threatens to unravel her plans.

She Sees (2024) – Produced by Akah Nnani  

Synopsis: A blind woman grapples with the psychological trauma of being abused by a Dr meant to care for her but a chance meeting brings them together again but this time she see him for his crimes.

Salamatu’s Rhapsody (2024) – Produced by Shimatavaer Igbawua 

Synopsis: Salamatu, a young woman torn between her love for hip-hop and her family’s strong traditional values and expectations, must win her father over to support her love for hip hop. 

Directors: Abu-bakr Adamu & Adejumo Oluwatimilehin:
