Diary Date Shaw Theatre Oct 25: Wil Johnson to make Director Debut Celebrating Flip Fraser

Save the date! On 25th October 2024 the Shaw Theatre is to host a special evening of theatre and entertainment honoring the life and legacy of Flip Fraser, the trailblazing creator of Black Heroes in The Hall of Fame. This landmark event will take place at the very venue where Fraser’s iconic play first premiered in 1987, making the celebration a powerful tribute to his enduring impact on Black history and culture.

Joyce Fraser OBE states. “We are thrilled that Wil  Johnson has chosen this play as his directorial debut in support of the Black Heroes Foundation”.

The evening will be a moving tribute to Fraser’s work, which has inspired generations by highlighting the rich and diverse stories of Black heroes.

The production is co-written with Director Veronica McKenzie & Joyce Fraser OBE

The event will not only celebrate Fraser’s contributions but also continue his mission of empowering the Black community through the arts.

In addition to honoring Fraser’s life, the event organizers are calling on the community and supporters to help make this celebration as impactful as possible. VIP tickets are available for purchase, and there is an opportunity to gift tickets to those who might not otherwise have the chance to attend. This support will ensure that more people can participate in this special occasion and experience the powerful narratives that Fraser championed.

“We are thrilled to return to the Shaw Theatre, where Black Heroes in The Hall of Fame first took the stage, to honor Flip Fraser’s remarkable legacy,’ said Wil Johnson, Director. This event is not just a celebration of one man’s achievements, but a continuation of his work to uplift and inspire the Black community through the arts”.

Johnson is an English actor, who has had notable television roles from The Bill to Waking the Dead and Babyfather, and on stage in Othello. He played Dom Andrews in Emmerdale from 2012 to 2014 and many more roles.

The evening promises to be a memorable celebration of Black excellence, heritage, and the arts. Supported by Greenwich University, with a special performance by legendary pop/soul icon Leee John   —a night not to be missed!

Leee” John is an English musician, singer and actor of St Lucian descent. He rose to fame as the lead singer of the soul band Imagination, which had three UK top 10 hits in the early 1980s. Since he has embarked on a successful solo and is known for his falsetto voice.
