Exclusive pictures: EMILY MAITLIS, RUTH WILSON and MICHAEL SHEEN attend UK Special Screening for Prime Video’s A VERY ROYAL SCANDAL

Prime Video hosted a Special Screening for A Very Royal Scandal, which will premiere on 19th September exclusively on Prime Video in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The captivating retelling which demonstrates the power of journalism through a pivotal moment in British history premiered at a screening event with Michael Sheen (Good Omens, Prodigal Son Masters of Sex) and Ruth Wilson (Luther, The Affair, Jane Eyre) in attendance. They each play Prince Andrew and Emily Maitlis respectively in the series, and Emily Maitlis herself, who acts as an executive producer on the series, was also in attendance.

Additional cast members in attendance at this evening’s screening included Claire Rushbrook (Secrets & Lies), Honor Swinton-Byrne (The Souvenir), and Sophia Oxenham (Extraordinary) who play Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson and daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie in the series. Lydia Leonard and Alexander Owen were also in attendance who play Esme Wren and Jake Morris, part of Maitlis’ esteemed Newsnight team. Additional guests at this evenings’ event included series writer Jeremy Brock, series director Julian Jarrold, and executive producer Karen Thrussell.

The screening featured the first episode of the upcoming series followed by an on-stage Q&A hosted by Afua Hirsch, featuring Emily Maitlis, Ruth Wilson, Michael Sheen, Jeremy Brock, Julian Jarrold and Karen Thrussell.

One night. One hour. One interview that sent shockwaves around the globe. Based on the real-life 2019 interview between Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew over the scandalous accusations he faced regarding his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre. A Very Royal Scandal follows the action of Maitlis and Prince Andrew in the lead-up to the interview, the ground-breaking event itself and the many questions left in its wake that would change their lives forever.

Along with Sheen and Wilson, the series will star Joanna Scanlan (After LoveNotes on a Scandal) as Amanda Thirsk, Alex Jennings (Your Christmas or Mine?) as Sir Edward Young, Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) as Stewart Maclean and Claire Rushbrook (Secrets & Lies) as Sarah Ferguson. Newly revealed additional cast members include Nicholas Burns (The Serpent Queen) as Mark Gwynne, Lydia Leonard (Ten Percent) as Esme Wren, Alexander Owen (Dreaming Whilst Black) as Jake Morris, Clare Calbraith (Mr Bates vs The Post Office) as Sam Mcalister, Sam Troughton (Chernobyl) as Donal Mccabe, Honor Swinton Byrne (The Souvenir) as Princess Beatrice and Sofia Oxenham (Extraordinary) as Princess Eugenie.

The series was directed by Julian Jarrold and written by Jeremy Brock. It was produced by Blueprint Television for Amazon MGM Studios, and distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Television. Karen Thrussell, Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, Diarmuid McKeown, Jeremy Brock, Jarrold, and Maitlis herself serve as executive producers. Josh Hyams serves as a producer on the series.
