The Hague Award 2024
The Hague, the Netherlands, 11 July 2024 — Nominations for the OPCW–The Hague Award are open till 31 July 2024. The award recognises stakeholders, including academia, researchers, the chemical industry, international and regional organisations, and civil society, who make outstanding contributions to a world free of chemical weapons.
Candidates can be nominated within a wide range of contributions like the following areas:
- Training and education to enhance chemical safety and security.
- Advocating for effective implementation of the Chemical Weapon Convention.
- Negotiators and policymakers contributing towards the mission of the total eradication of chemical weapons.
- Preventing the threat of chemical terrorism.
- Promoting chemistry for peaceful purposes.

Procedure for nominations
The deadline for nominations is open till 31 July 2024. Up to three nominees may be selected who will each be awarded a share of the €90,000 prize. Successful recipients are invited to accept the award in person in The Hague. The event will take place on 25 November 2024 during the OPCW’s 29th Session of the Conference of the States Parties. The OPCW-The Hague Award is presented by the Director-General of the OPCW, Ambassador Fernando Arias and the Mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen. About the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
