Our Friends at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre would love to extend an exclusive £10 ticket offer for you to join them at the performance next Thu 20 Jun, when they will be holding a special post-show event, For the Culture: For the Black Folks, celebrating playwright Alice Childress.Did you know: In 1957, Childress was on the verge of being the first Black woman to have a play on Broadway, but she refused to compromise in order to make white audiences more comfortable.Arminda Thomas Dramaturg stated “There won’t great roles written for Black women” and roles for “strong black women”. Childress was herself a performer so the rest is history!!!
This night will provide a welcoming space for audiences with a shared lived experience to witness together a bold and unapologetic play about race.
