London African Food

African culture is an important part of London’s identity and has created vital communities in neighbourhoods that have helped shape our city.” Greater London Authority

We’re passing the plate and inviting you to join us in celebrating African cuisine during London African Food Week, a vibrant weeklong celebration dedicated to highlighting the culinary treasures of the continent while reshaping perceptions. African cuisine, with its undeniable deliciousness and significant nutritional value, deserves recognition and appreciation beyond borders. In recent years, it has gained traction in the London scene, being recognised as worthy of Michelin Stars. This event is our platform to showcase the richness of African food culture, rooted in the principle of “Teranga,” which embodies hospitality and generosity. We’ve collaborated with entrepreneurs, food enthusiasts, and chefs to bring London a truly world-class culinary experience.

After a necessary hiatus due to COVID-19, London African Food Week is back, building upon the success of our inaugural event in 2019. This year, we’re excited to announce a new partnership with Akara restaurant, founded by Aji Akokomi. Notably, Aji’s first restaurant, Akoko, was recently awarded one Michelin star. Akara specialises in black-eye bean fritters—a beloved street food delicacy cherished across West Africa and Brazil. Join us as we celebrate the vibrant flavours of African cuisine, with Akara restaurant bringing its renowned culinary expertise to the forefront of our event.
