This is the return of the slick blockbuster, fast cars, designer suits, big action scenes and muscle (Idris Elba) and more muscle (Dwayne Johnson) and more muscle (Jason Statham), but these guys are flexing their muscles in the right way. Sophisticated special effects gives you breath taking car chases and some bad ass fight scenes.
So this is the story, lawman Hobbs (Johnson) who was first introduced in Furious 5 (2011), an agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first seen in 2015’s Furious 7 join forces to bring down ex-MI6 cyber-genetically enhanced criminal Brixton (Idris Elba) who has control of an insidious bio-threat that could destroy mankind — enter MI6 agent Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), who happens to be Shaw’s sister -now becoming a ticking time bomb as she has injected the virus dubbed The Snowflake. What we know about Brixton is that he once worked with Shaw who had shot him and left him for dead but he survived and Eteon rebuilt him.
Hobbs & Shaw now have 72 hours to save the earth and bring down bad guy Brixton who is in hot pursuit of Hattie to extract the virus. I am not sure why he is called Brixton but the self-proclaimed “black superman” manages to divert Hobbs & Shaw away from the comical on-going verbal and physical onslaught they have aimed at each long enough to work out how to defeat him. The end of the movie takes the action to Samoa where we see Hobbs’s family and the village come together to fight the dangerously armed might of Brixton and his army without any conventional weapons.
I don’t think this is the end for Super soldier Brixton as he was answering to someone referred to as The Director, who headed the organisation Eteon that made the virus. There is also a hint of romance between Hattie and Hobbs, so watch this space. There are moments when the movie takes you to the edge of your seat, some tongue in cheek moments, die hard fans of Fast and Furious and action movie lovers would enjoy this.
The domestic box office figures speak for itself, Hobbs & Shaw reached number 1 in the US box office with $60.8 million dollars already a huge dent in the reported $200 million dollar budget.
Hobbs and Shaw opened in UK cinemas on 1st August 2019. #Fastfurious #HobbsandShaw
