Running from 16th to 24th September 2017, London provides the stage for thousands of individual designers and artists, companies, organizations and nations to come together to present their latest works. Set in many landmark locations in London: from Somerset House, Chelsea, Notting Hill, to Shoreditch and Brixton, #LDF17 celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world.
London Design Festival at the V&A has gone from strength to strength year on year. This year’s programme fills the museum with an extraordinary range of design installations large and small, intricate and majestic.
There is still time to enjoy what is on offer with this year’s festival including some of the most awaited events in the cultural sector, a rich display of talent, originality and style. Here is the Alt A round up of some of the highlights.
– Fashioning Space: this installation by Intoart brings together garments, textile hangings and furniture designed by artists including Ntiense Eno Amooquaye, Mawuena Kattah and Clifton Wright, in collaboration with designers Holly Fulton and James Lambert. Fabric designs are inspired by 17th-century French tapestries, Japanese kimonos, pop-era textiles and space-age technology, while textile hangings and screen-printed on linen, have been designed in collaboration with Laura Slater. Intoart is a Peckham-based studio working inclusively with people with learning disabilities.
– Slave/Master: Victoria & Albert Museum hosts Slave/Master, an installation that combines contemporary dance, cutting-edge robotics and interactive projection graphics in a collaborative performance, with the audience able to roam freely around the space.
– Villa Walala: set in Exchange Square this incredible work by textile designer Camille Walala is a huge inflatable sculpture that dominates the square in Broadgate. Her inflatable castle, with its primary colours and dazzle ship patterns, looks like a stack of outsized building blocks aims to be cathartic, a place where the City workers could come to let off steam during their lunch breaks. The installation is part of the Landmark Project event series. #villawalala
– Design Frontiers: a free, group exhibition of over 30 leading international designers is hosted by Somerset House in London. Design Frontiers will illuminate the thinking and working practices of these celebrated designers, whose work is redefining the frontiers of their disciplines: from automotive to fashion, product design to graphics, digital to performance.

– Global Design Forum: a week-long celebration of design and what it can do. A layer cake of talks, discussions and workshops the Forum lifts the lid on the most innovative thinking in the world of design today. During the forum, more than 30 speakers will share their perspectives on designing for how we live today and the world we want to inhabit tomorrow. From super materials and radical technologies, to colour and collections be inspired and informed by the new possibilities that are being created across every design discipline.
